Consumer Trace and Contact Detail Verification with VerifyNow

What this service is for

VerifyNow's trace products are designed for permitted fraud-detection and fraud-prevention workflows. They are not general marketing tools and should not be used out of curiosity or for unrelated contact harvesting.

The two relevant services are Consumer Trace and Phone Number Trace. Use the service that matches your lawful purpose and the information you already hold.

Consumer Trace

Consumer Trace is an ID-led lookup. The service page describes returned data such as identity fields, recorded addresses, recorded contact numbers, recorded employers and an audit trail. It is intended for fraud prevention, payment-fraud response, onboarding review, returned-mail address update, insurance-claim investigation and identity-theft response workflows.

Because this data is sensitive, treat it as a compliance-controlled product. Keep the purpose narrow and document why the lookup was needed.

Phone Number Trace

Phone Number Trace is a mobile-number-led lookup. A successful response may include subscriber identity details and recorded mobile numbers where available, plus a transaction reference and timestamp. It is useful when a phone number is part of a suspected fraud, impersonation, supplier-payment or account-takeover workflow.

It should not be described as unrestricted phone-owner discovery. Use it only for the fraud-prevention purposes allowed by VerifyNow's terms and your lawful basis.

What to record

For every trace lookup, keep:

  • The business purpose for the lookup.
  • The user who ran it.
  • The timestamp and transaction reference.
  • The result returned.
  • The decision made after review.

What this does not replace

Trace data does not replace consent management, legal advice, debt-collection compliance, a court process or your own POPIA governance. It gives your team a structured evidence point for a defined fraud-prevention workflow.

Next step

Review Consumer Trace and Phone Number Trace. If your use case is identity onboarding rather than tracing, start with ID verification instead. When ready, register or contact VerifyNow to set up the right workflow.
