The duties the FIC expects you to apply

  • Explain how money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing work, and where your business is exposed to them.
  • Apply a risk-based approach in line with your Risk Management and Compliance Programme (RMCP).
  • Identify and verify a customer, and keep that information current through ongoing due diligence.
  • Apply enhanced due diligence to politically exposed persons (PEPs) and adverse-media matches.
  • Screen against targeted financial sanctions lists and act correctly on a match.
  • Recognise the red flags and indicators of suspicion that arise in your day-to-day work.
  • Meet the reporting duties owed to the Financial Intelligence Centre, and know which report applies and by when.
  • Keep retrievable records for the required period and handle client information in line with POPIA.

A 40-question test after the lessons. You set the pass mark. Default is 80%. A completion certificate downloads after a pass.

40 multiple-choice questions, four options each, one correct answer.
Coverage
Questions are drawn from every lesson, in a different order on each attempt.
Pass mark
Set by your organisation. The default is 80%. Owners and admins can change it.
Retakes
You can sit it again. Each attempt reshuffles the questions.
On a pass
A certificate downloads with your score, the date and a certificate number.

Before you start

  • No prior compliance experience. The course starts from first principles.
  • Pick your Schedule 1 sector when you buy, so the examples match the work you do.
  • Keep your organisation's RMCP to hand — several workbook exercises ask you to write down what it says.
  • A browser on any device. There is nothing to install.
