Address verification
Proof of Address Check
Verify the address shown on an official document. Upload a utility bill, bank statement or government letter through the dashboard, or connect the API to your onboarding flow.
3 credits per completed check
An address document, checked
Review the document holder’s name and extracted address alongside the issuer, issue date and validation findings.
Optional matching compares the document against the name and address you provide.
How the proof of address check works
Upload the document
Submit a PDF or image. Multi-page PDFs are supported, with a password field for encrypted PDFs.
Extract the details
The service classifies the document and extracts the holder’s name, address, issuer and dates.
Validate and compare
Checks assess document age and signs of alteration. Address standardisation and geocoding return structured location details where available. Supply expected details for name and address matching.
Review the result
Receive an Approved or Declined decision with warnings through the dashboard or API. Dashboard users can download a report.
Accepted documents
Use utility bills, bank statements or government-issued documents showing the holder’s name and address. This service applies a three-month age limit to all accepted document categories.
Upload a legible, undamaged copy with the issuer’s name or logo and an issue date. Choose a document separate from the ID document used for identity verification.
File requirements
PDF, JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP and TIFF files are accepted up to 15 MB. Documents above 4 MB use a private upload step. Encrypted PDFs require the correct password.
A check evaluates the submitted document. Review warnings and apply your organisation’s acceptance policy before relying on the address.
Use the dashboard
Upload a document and review the result in your workspace. Download the report for your records.

Read the API guideProof of address questions
Does a declined document use credits?
Yes. Both Approved and Declined results are completed checks and use 3 credits. Technical failures are refunded.
Does this verify that someone lives at the address?
The check assesses the address document and any expected details you supply. Physical residence requires further evidence under your acceptance policy.
Can it detect an altered bank statement?
The check looks for signs of manipulation and metadata inconsistencies. Warnings require review; an Approved result does not guarantee authenticity.
Is name matching included?
Name matching runs when you supply an expected first or last name. The service does not retrieve a person’s ID document for comparison.
