Gauteng has begun enrolling e-hailing drivers into the Gauteng Integrated Public Transport Administration System, known as GIPTAS. The process is being coordinated with e-hailing companies. Drivers should get their identity, PrDP and vehicle records ready, then use the secure channel confirmed by their platform or Gauteng Roads and Transport.

What changed for Gauteng e-hailing drivers?
GIPTAS is Gauteng's transport administration repository. The province uses it to hold information needed for public transport administration, licensing and oversight.
The current driver-enrolment reports identify these core details:
- A valid Professional Driving Permit, commonly called a PrDP
- Vehicle registration details
- A South African identity number, or a Traffic Register Number for a qualifying foreign national
The driver registration follows the national recognition of e-hailing as a public transport service. The National Land Transport Amendment Act 23 of 2023 came into operation on 12 September 2025. Section 66A links e-hailing operation to a valid operating licence and places duties on platform providers.

What should a driver do now?
Start with document readiness. Use the checklist below before sending personal information anywhere.
1. Check your driving licence and PrDP
A person carrying passengers for payment needs the appropriate PrDP. Gauteng residents can begin through NaTIS Online Services or follow the steps on the government's professional driving permit page.
Check the expiry dates on the driving licence card and the PrDP. Confirm that the name and identity details match the record used by the e-hailing platform. Allow time for medical, identity and criminal-record steps in the PrDP process.
2. Prepare the vehicle record
Keep the current vehicle registration certificate and licence-disc information available. The vehicle details should match the car listed on the driver's platform profile.
An e-hailing operating licence is a separate regulatory record. Gauteng's Form 1B operating licence application states that operating licences are granted per vehicle.
Prospective operators should follow the order published by Gauteng Roads and Transport: submit the operating licence application, await the GPRE decision, and purchase the vehicle after a grant letter is issued.
3. Use an ID number or the correct TRN route
South African citizens will ordinarily use their identity number. A foreign national who needs an eNaTIS identifier may qualify for a Traffic Register Number.
The government's Traffic Register Number service explains who qualifies, which identity and residence documents are needed, and where to apply. Applications are handled through a registering authority. A TRN supports road-traffic transactions. Immigration status, work permission and platform onboarding requirements remain separate matters.
4. Wait for a verified registration instruction
The available reporting describes a process coordinated through e-hailing companies. It does not identify a final public driver deadline or a confirmed general self-service upload page.
Use the registration flow sent inside the official driver app, through the company's known driver centre, or through a channel confirmed by Gauteng Roads and Transport.
Treat document-upload links received through forwarded messages with care. Confirm the domain and recipient before sending an ID, passport, PrDP or vehicle certificate. Ask the platform which details it will send to GIPTAS, why each item is needed, and how long the records will be kept.

Confirm the platform's national registration status
The national framework requires e-hailing platform providers and their applications to be registered with the NPTR. The NPTR page publishes the current registered-provider list, Form 9A, the provider checklist and contact numbers.
Platform-provider registration is different from a driver's provincial registration. A platform company uses the NPTR process. A driver or vehicle operator deals with the provincial operating-licence and GIPTAS steps that apply to their record.
Get the GIPTAS data specification in writing
Ask Gauteng Roads and Transport to confirm the required fields, accepted document formats, secure submission route, correction process and deadline. Give drivers the same instructions in plain language.
If a contractor or integration partner will handle documents, record who receives the data and the purpose of the transfer. Keep a current privacy notice available before collection starts.
Run a controlled document-readiness check
A useful pre-submission workflow compares the driver's onboarding record with the identity, licence and vehicle evidence supplied. Flag mismatched names, expired dates, unreadable barcodes and inconsistent vehicle details for review.
